(upbeat music) At Bethesda Church in Carlton, Minnesota, diligent volunteers crochet used plastic bags into usable and free floor mats.
- The bags are collected by local community members and then they're brought to the church.
They're sorted by colors, and then they're folded.
The end's cut off, and then they're cut into strips.
- [Narrator] These loops of plastic are called plarn.
- [Debby] Instead of yarn, it's plarn.
And then it's rolled in a ball and then people crochet 'em.
- [Narrator] The church has made over 250 mats since 2019.
- It takes 700 clean plastic bags to make one mat.
