In the industry of graphic recorders, they use other terms like live illustrator, strategic illustrator, visual practitioner.
Some people just talk about being a visual summaries.
I use the term graphic recorder because it's the most common.
And what that means is we are dedicated listeners in the room and we listen for the most salient points being presented by key messages, and then we ink them on the board.
People talk a lot without a lot of information.
So you wait.
You wait until you find the good stuff and you don't know if it's coming or not.
When people at first think, Oh, it's just like, you know, stick figures and markers, what is she doing up there?
It's really about listening.
And most people in this profession come at it mid-career because they really understand the value of listening well and kind of drilling down the main points.
