The incumbent in district 3A is Democrat Rob Ecklund of International Falls.
- Hello, my name is Rob Ecklund.
I'm proud to serve as your state representative in district 3A.
I'm running for reelection this fall and I'm here to ask for your vote.
There is more work that I would like to get done for the people of northeastern Minnesota down in St. Paul.
My entire life is rooted here in northern Minnesota.
Aside from serving three years serving my country in the United States Marine Corps, I spent 57 years living in International Falls.
26 of those years I spent working at the paper mill owned by Boise, now PCA.
I served my neighbors on the Koochiching County board for five years, and for the last seven years I've had the pleasure and the honor to serve district 3A down in St. Paul.
My wife Joan and I have been married for 38 years and we have three adult sons.
Whether it was wearing the uniform of a marine in service of our country, supporting my brothers and sisters at the paper mill as a union officer, and leading in state and local government, I have always tried to put my community first, and I'm asking for another term in the Minnesota legislature.
I've always worked to advocate and fight for working men and women in the district.
Whether they work in one of the three big industries, taconite, tourism, or timber, or in some other field, I'm always fighting for workers to earn a living wage, have quality benefits, and to have a reliable pension to retire on.
Because I represent so many rural communities, I have made bringing high speed internet a priority for every Minnesotan while working in St. Paul.
Rural communities can diversify their economy and compete with the metro area for jobs when they have reliable internet and where people don't have to travel to other areas to be able to get hooked up and do their homework or do their business.
I've been working hard for the last seven years to get rural broadband done for the state of Minnesota.
In the area of taxes, I've been working to put more money in your pocket.
I am proud to have been a coauthor on the bill to eliminate social security tax from your income, and we should have gotten it done last year, and I pledge to get it done this year as we go forward.
I also want to use the enormous budget surplus that the state has to help lower local property taxes.
I am proud of my 100% voting AFL-CIO voting record and I think it reflects this by the vast numbers of endorsements I have received from organized labor.
Finally, public safety is important to all of us.
I am proud to be endorsed by two major law enforcement groups, the State Trooper Supervisors Association and the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association.
I have had the back of law enforcement professionals in St. Paul, and I'm proud that they have my back in this campaign.
In everything I do, I try to be authentic and trustworthy.
I think that this, combined with my legislative record of getting things done for rural Minnesota and northeastern Minnesota, that proves that I should continue to lead in representing this district in St. Paul.
I hope you would agree, and I ask for your vote in November.
- [Greg] The Republican candidate in House District 3A is Roger Skraba, the current mayor of Ely.
- Hi, I'm Roger Skraba and I'm running for Minnesota State House of Representatives district 3A.
I am currently the mayor of Ely, Minnesota, and have been elected four times.
I have earned the trust of the voters of Ely, and I look forward to getting your trust in this election.
I'm running to bring a more balanced voice to St. Paul.
My opponent votes 100% with the Democratic party.
I pledge I will not, dang, I can't look down here.
Can I put this right here like this?
I'll start over, but is this in the way or not?
Okay, thank you.
Yep, hi, I'm Roger Skraba and I'm running for state, the Min- Hi, I'm Roger Skraba and I'm running for the Minnesota State Legislature district 3A.
I am currently the mayor of Ely, Minnesota, and have been elected four times.
I have earned the trust of the Ely voters, and I hope you'll vote for me on November 8th.
I'm running to bring a more balanced voice to St. Paul.
My opponent votes 100% with the metro Democrats.
I pledge I will not do that.
There are too many issues that need bipartisan support, and I plan to bring those issues through the house.
One of the issues I will not get mired down is mental health.
We all need to work together to solve the mental health issue.
It should not be owned by one group.
One party should not say mental health is our issue.
It needs to be shared.
It is a big issue, and it's gonna take a lot of work on both sides and a lot of money, and I pledge I will work with both sides and I will try to be a leader getting mental health issues through.
Another issue that needs no legislation is the abortion issue.
It is a constitutional amendment, and the only way it can be changed is by another constitutional amendment or the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Neither is a likely scenario.
Our economy and public safety should be our goals, as we can affect them more than the abortion issue.
It is important we find a way to reduce taxes.
We have collected over $12 billion more than we need.
Why would we increase taxes?
The Democrats want to increase the gas tax by 70%, 20 cents a gallon.
I will not support an increase in taxes as long as we have surplus taxes.
The prolonged shutdown on our schools has caused caused irreparable harm to the whole education system.
We all need to work together and try to bring some semblance back.
It will take money and fundamental change in how we deliver education.
Again, I will work with the other side to solve this issue.
As a nonpartisan mayor, I represent all constituents.
I see no reason why I should change.
I will support copper nickel mining and precious metal mining, along with taconite mining.
I will make sure that jobs are here stay here, and create new jobs in our area.
The science is here to do mining.
Let's use it and get mining.
I want to thank all the people that I've met on this incredible journey, and look forward to representing you in St. Paul.
Please vote for Roger J Skraba on or before November 8th, thank you.
