The district includes the cities of Virginia and Evelith, and extends to industrial township in the south.
Running for reelection in the district is Democrat Dave Lislegard from Aurora.
- I'm State Representative Dave Lislegard and I'm running for re-election for House District 7B.
It has truly been an honor to represent the people of northeast Minnesota for the last four years, and I'm excited for this opportunity to represent this new district.
I believe that I have the credentials that will help be the voice for northeast Minnesota.
As a former mayor and a city counselor for the city of Aurora, I know the importance and the challenges that these small cities face.
That's why local government aid is one of my main focuses, to bring more dollars to these communities.
We talk about crime.
I am proud to say that I'm endorsed by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, not because I filled out a survey, but because how I voted, that I had their back.
We need to give them the tools and the resources to be successful and hold those who commit crimes accountable.
We talk about broadband.
Broadband is extremely important for northeast Minnesota.
It is about equity and equality for everyone, where we shouldn't be left behind.
We talk about education, investing in our children, investing in the future, not just in bricks and mortar, but also in our teachers.
We need to invest in mining, the next generation, protect what we have, and invest in the future.
As a former steel worker who worked at LTV, I know the importance of mining.
I know what those jobs bring to northeast Minnesota.
There are ups and downs and that's why it's important to protect what we have but also to promote the future of mining.
Copper-nickel mining is extremely important.
We have the minerals here.
We talk about a global economy, but we also have a global environment, and there's no one else that can do it better than us.
We have to stop exporting our jobs and this country's conscience to overseas, to third world countries that don't have the same environmental or labor standards.
We have the opportunity to do the right thing the right way.
We need to protect our seniors.
We need to lower prescription drug cost.
We need to eliminate the tax on social security.
I'm proud to say as the vice chair of taxes, I was in the conference committee where both Democrats and Republicans worked together to compromise.
That's how government is supposed to work.
It has been an honor to serve the people of northeast Minnesota these last four years.
I am focused to being that independent and trusted voice for you, to represent you down in St. Paul.
The ability to work across the aisle is extremely important and that's what I'm committed to doing, to delivering for you.
I ask you for your vote, November 8th.
- [Greg] The challenger in district 7B is Republican Matt Norri from Virginia.
- Hi, my name is Matt Norri.
I'm running for House District 7B up on the Iron Range.
I come from a long line of small business owners.
My grandfather started our family business in 1951.
We are part of a beverage delivery business, which I got to deal with a ton of small businesses in the region and got to meet a lot of people and make a lot of relationships, have a lot of friends on the range.
One great thing about that is now that my children are coming of age, they get to grow up with a lot of my friends' kids as well, and that is a big thing for me.
I really want small business to prosper on the Iron Range.
Big part of that is making our mining industry prosper.
We need to make sure that our mines are up and running.
If it wasn't for that, our small businesses would not prosper as well.
Another big issue for me is our law enforcement and to make sure our communities are safe.
Coming from a small community, it's very nice to know that your children are safe out and about and running around with their friends.
So on November 8th, I would really hope to gain your vote, and I want to bring the range better and back to better days like it was when I grew up.
So thank you for your time and I hope to see at the polls.
- [Greg] Our next race is in Senate District eight,
