Little Rock was formed basically because of a 1905 storm that hit the entire Lake Superior region.
My name is Dave Scriven.
I'm the site manager here at split Rock lighthouse, and I oversee the day to day operations of this historic site.
We started back, in early May with this, trails and landscape rehabilitation project and what we're trying to do is improve the Ada access to the site, kind of make the pathways more accessible, friendly.
And then we're also doing some restoration work on the original sidewalks that are still here at the site, and then some restoration work up at the, lighthouse itself, around the observation deck, and then, going into the first keeper's house.
We're adding a new Ada ramp.
And in 1969, the lighthouse was decommissioned.
People can still access the lighthouse.
They can access the fog signal.
They can still access the house as well, so they can get their full experience.
It just might be a little more dirty and dusty when people are walking around in it.
And later in the summer, actually creating a new overlook, that we're really excited about here, where, it'll take people closer to the lake and then actually see the original, Hoist and Eric Foundation, where, all the equipment and supplies were brought up over the lake to build the light station for success.
And I'm blessed to to be able to be here and be a part of this process and know that the work that I'm doing and the work that our team is doing here really is making a difference.
