we have a little bit of everything and it's all really beautiful.
And the theme is just winter.
my name is Cheri Fitch, and I am the vice president of Superior Council for the Arts.
And today, we are at the opening of our very first event as a newly formed council, which is our Winter Artist Showcase.
We've got everything from photography to oil paints to acrylics to, I mean, art glass.
At the end of the month, we're going to announce the People's Choice.
We do have a voting box.
It is here in Empire Coffee.
it's my privilege to announce the inagural artist of the year award.
When I was in high school, I wanted to be a geologist, but the the influence that Tony Yaworski had on me, I changed and decided to be, an artist, and which led to being an art instructor.
And I taught in the Superior public schools for 32 years.
We had, Mister Bill Gedde come and present to us at one of our meetings, and in the space we were in was actually filled with, murals that he had have redone and brought back to life.
I'm very honored and very humbled by the award, what I'm most excited about is the fact that the Superior Council for the Arts is up and running again.
We are super excited that we will be starting a grant program this year to help our local artists.
Art in the community creates culture, and a more cultured area brings more tourism, more people that come here see all of the beautiful things Superior has to offer.
